Making the Difference
Ever sat in a lonely room with dim lights, unhitched from the chaos of the world outside, and thought about how time is important? I guess most of you have been in this dim kinda situation but thought of maybe something else or maybe even thought about time.
But the irony in the first sentence was the surrounding I told about. Dim lights, lonely room and whatnot. But do we really need to be in such kind of special surroundings to give a thought about the most valuable thing in our life?
Well, I think many of you will be confused and it's common believe me. Till tonight, literally till the point, I started to vent my thoughts through this piece, I never ever thought about this. Then why suddenly now?
The Reason
The sole reason for this is Mr Kunal Shah. Yes, the genius and the founder of FreeCharge and CRED. Startled at this sentence right? If you have then stop right here. Give it a break and then read the next part because I feel it can change the way you are controlling your life.
Now let me tell you why suddenly I am writing about this and how it is related to Mr Kunal Shah. I recently developed a habit of listening to podcasts while doing my works, assignments or anything. Well, today by luck, Youtube suggested me a podcast by Raj Sharmani with Kunal Shah. Raj Sharmani is an entrepreneur and conducts this podcast series called #FiguringOutWithRaj. I didn't have the slightest idea this amazing podcast exists.
The podcast was 45 min long but not at one point I felt bored or thought it was only “Gyaan” types. (Gyaan types means when you feel it is too monotonous and the words feel like instructions). Throughout I felt an unknown power which I felt made me stick to the podcast for the whole time.
Let me not bore you all and tell you what I felt. It's better to share what I learnt.
Things to Grasp
Although there are so so many things that he said and all of them actually made so much sense. But briefing the things would not make you feel the essence. So I suggest everyone listen to the whole podcast through this link.
But I will share some key points that will surely give you an idea about the title of this article.
One of the most precious things we possess is Time. So acting in accordance with what value it holds in our life can do wonders. The way we manage and value time is where the difference is made.
First Key Point
This makes me come to the very first takeaway. One should know what Time means to him/her. Spend time figuring out the importance it holds in your life. The only common thing that every individual on this planet possesses is 24 hours. The way you spend this is what creates the difference and makes billionaires or successful people. For example, for a common man like us, spending 100 to 200 Rs a Day is normal enough. But Jeff Bezos can easily spend 10 Lacs or even more per hour.
So don't compare on the basis of what is dissimilar. Instead, try finding similarities and utilise them. This will surely create a difference.
Second Key point
Secondly, he discussed the steps one can follow to learn things and develop such observing sense.
Well, there are no fixed roadmaps, which almost everyone searches for. Whenever we want to start learning, we see a roadmap, get demotivated and leave it at the halfway stage. This is not how one can dive into the serene pool of knowledge.
If you want to seriously learn something, find a word or topic you are curious about. Spend an hour to research and find every possible resource for learning that. Now, while learning that you will come across another new term or topic. Fix it in your head and again dive in to learn that topic.
This process will continue and even you won't experience how much you have learnt. You will lose count of the topics you are now a master of. The urge to go deep and understand every point of something is what makes the difference.
Third Key Point
The last thing which I wanted to put up is an interesting point. It might sound vague, but believe me, it is immensely relatable to each of our lives.
We as humans always seek comfort. And that is the most dangerous aspect that stops our growth. Invite discomfort and cope up with it. Discomfortable situations make you thrive to be a better version of yourself and makes you work at your potential that normally you wouldn't have done.
No, Kunal Shah didn't say these exact words. But what he said is represented through the above lines. What he said was be with people smarter than you. Be in groups where everyone is superior to you and has an urge to learn. This makes you feel inferior and you put in everything to match their level. This is how your growth becomes exponential.
Suppose you are suddenly made a part of an Animations team. You are a person who is quite an average animator but the team demands sheer brilliance and uniqueness. So to cope up with her expectations from you you will work hard and try to be a better version of yourself. This is where the difference is made.
The Last Point
Do you guys remember the starting question I asked? Yeah, that one about the special surroundings to ponder upon how important is time to us. Do we really need that? The answer is NO.
All these things depend on how we prioritise things in our life. If for us, watching a football match is important we will think about it all the time, between classes, or work period. But if thinking about how can we manage time effectively is not as important, we would require to take out a separate space to think about it.
This is a really insightful thought and don't just leave it here. Think about what is written and I think you will find the essence. This is what will make the difference.
Let’s Think Together
There were a lot more amazing discussions and insights I gained listening to this podcast. So I prefer everyone to listen to it once. I can say it will change the way you look at this world.
But don't treat it as a binge-watching Netflix show or movie. Grasp the things said, if needed make a note of them and reflect upon them until you find the answer in your own life.
If you fully accept the worst that can ever happen in your journey, fear won’t ever be an obstacle in starting up. ~ Kunal Shah
